One of my all-time favourite things is bumping into someone I know in an unexpected location. I’ve run into an old school mate in Alberta, stayed at a neighbouring resort to a friend from high school in Cuba, and even had a taxi-driver in Egypt who previously lived only a few blocks from my house in Canada.
This one was planned (but equally exciting), as after nearly 20 years of not seeing one another, I got the chance to meet up with an old friend in Florence! Last we saw each other we were about 11 or 12 years old and were making up synchronized swimming routines in her parent’s pool to Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine’s 1-2-3, and trying to cook noodles in their hot tub. Don’t worry, we’re both smarter now.
She’s currently working in Geneva as a lawyer, and was going to be spending the weekend in Milan with a friend of hers from London, so we met half way and she, her friend, Tyler, Baby and I spent the day in Florence.
It was so nice to have social time with friends, and talk with new people. We drank great coffee, had a stroll through a fabulous garden, enjoyed a delicious lunch and had gelato…twice.
Hopefully it’s not another 20 years before we see each other again!
Until next time,
J xo
